Winners of the 2022 US OSPAs announced

The winners of the 2022 Outstanding Security Performance Awards were revealed on the 13 September at an awards reception held at GSX 2022 where security professionals gathered to celebrate recognition of exceptional performers.

The winners highlight the very best companies, people, projects and technologies that have made a significant contribution in safeguarding people, places and property from all areas of potential crime and disorder.

Those who were selected went through a rigorous and robust independent judging process and should feel very proud. 

The 2022 winners are:

Outstanding In-House Security Manager/Director 
Dr. Matthew D. Hollandsworth, CISSP, CPP – AMERICAN SYSTEMS

Dr. Hollandsworth is the Director, Corporate Security, Facilities & Safety for AMERICAN SYSTEMS, one of the largest employee-owned government contractors. His responsibilities include overall strategic management and leadership of the company’s security, facilities, and safety programs, including all facets of DOD and intelligence community requirements. He is also responsible for relationship management with senior government officials, senior law enforcement agencies, and cross-functional teams within the company and manages over 20 staff.

Outstanding Contract Security Manager/Director 
Frank Catalano, CPP – Doyle Security Services

As New York City District Manager for Doyle Security Services (DSS), Frank Catalano, CPP, directly manages many of the company’s largest accounts in the most demanding and security-sensitive urban environment.  He is also actively involved in numerous security industry organizations. Currently, he holds the title of Regional Vice President for ASIS International, covering downstate New York. He also sits on the Advisory Committee for Suffolk County Police Shield Program and is an active member of The LI College and University Security Consortium, Long Island Infragard, and other Security/Law Enforcement Groups.

Outstanding Security Team 
MetroLink St. Louis Team – Allied Universal

The Allied Universal MetroLink St. Louis contract security team has helped to turn around the perception of security on St. Louis public transit. By forming strong relationships with law enforcement and Metro in-house security, the Allied Universal team, led by account manager Billy Reynolds and operations manager Steve Graeser, has helped to reduce crime on the transit system, brought innovative approaches to the client, and raised the bar for what is possible when tasked with securing public transit systems. Judges felt that the nomination demonstrated excellent client and relationship engagement. 

Outstanding Contract Security Company
Sunstates Security

Sunstates Security is a private, female-owned, physical security services provider headquartered in Raleigh, NC. The company provides armed and unarmed physical security services to a wide variety of clients across the US. The nature of their business is to work proactively to identify potential safety and security risks before a problem occurs. Sunstates Security’s mission and vision statement are at the heart of everything they do, focusing all efforts on honour, integrity and trust.

Aggressive Patient Simulation Training Initiative – Massachusetts General Hospital

Imagine on your first day as a newly minted resident at Massachusetts General Hospital, you are called to the room of an aggressive patient. They have been pacing, yelling, name-calling, slamming their fists, throwing things, and talking to people who aren’t there. What do you? Do you wish you had experienced this scenario in a more controlled setting for the first time, rather than in a live situation? That is exactly what MGH’s Aggressive Patient Simulation Training program is all about… creating a real-world scenario in a controlled, safe learning environment. Judges felt that this was a fantastic initiative with incredible result and future potential.

Metro Public Safety, Allied Universal, and the St. Louis Regional Metro Transit Task Force, work hand in hand to bring safety and security to public transit in the Metropolitan St. Louis area. A comprehensive security plan, thorough understanding of industry best practices, innovate thinking and strong partnerships have led to a complete overhaul of public transit security in St. Louis, and in turn have made MetroLink and MetroBus, regional assets for the bi-state area.

Outstanding Security Equipment Manufacturer

Established in 1997, Genetec was founded with the belief that technology could break down barriers and improve the day-to-day lives of its users. Today, this privately-owned company has grown to over 1,700 employees with solutions deployed by 42,500 customers in 159 countries. Primarily focused on the physical security and public safety markets, Genetec serves numerous industries, including urban safety, transportation, education, retail, healthcare, government, parking, and law enforcement.  Judges noted that their nomination had demonstrated historical and ongoing innovation and data privacy measures, which are critical in this space. 

Outstanding Young Security Professional 
Scott Ashworth – Overtime

Scott is an accomplished and safety-conscious executive with comprehensive experience in directing all aspects of security management. What makes him stand out are his skills in designing and delivering integrated security and safety systems, conducting scenario-based training for emergency response, and managing large-scale security and safety operations across multiple sites. He has proven success in structuring, leading, and training high-performing teams to ensure the attainment of collective goals. Judges felt that Scott was an excellent Young Professional influencer who is clearly committed to the industry and shares his knowledge for the betterment of the sector. 

Lifetime Achievement Award 
Francis D’Addario

Throughout his career, Francis D’Addario has developed and implemented innovative solutions for workplace safety, crime prevention, and all-hazards risk mitigation that have guided best practices and standards across the retail food and quick service industries and likely saved thousands of lives. He continues to influence the broader security community today through programs that help practitioners verify security products and service value, build leadership acumen, and share proven practices and knowledge for the betterment of the industry. Judges felt that Francis was a very dedicated professional who has developed and implemented many practices that has led to the safety of staff and crime and risk mitigation.
